In the self-help book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, actor, comedian, syndicated talk show host Steve Harvey gives no-nonsense advice about men and love. Since its 2009 publication, the popular book climbed to the top of USA Today’s Best-Selling Books list, selling over 2 million copies in over 26 languages, and will now be adapted into a feature film called Think Like a Man.

Kevin Hart (35 and Ticking, Death at a Funeral, Little Fockers, Not Easily Broken) will star in Think Like a Man which is described as a “battle of the sexes” — does Two Can Play That Game (2001) ring a bell?

Hart will play a self-professed “relationship expert” who is quick to give advice to his crew of friends, even as he watched his own marriage fall apart and head toward divorce, says Deadline. Writers Keith Merryman and David A. Newman (Friends with Benefits) have been hired by Screen Gems to pen the adaptation, surprisingly over many black writers who have completed successful rom coms and could have done a decent job with this screenplay.

The book’s full title is a mouthful: Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man: What Men Really Think About Love, Relationships, Intimacy and Commitment. And Harvey was surprised by the amount of support it received from the African American community. He told USA Today “I’m absolutely stunned at the reception this book has gotten. My original goal was to maybe break the top 10. I never once had the notion to be No. 1.”

A few topics the book highlights:

-why men cheat
-why not to give a man “benefits” before a 90-day trial run
-how to sport a mama’s boy
-how to get the wedding ring
-why independent women should make men feel necessary

I’m guessing the book or the feature won’t make it onto any feminists’ shelves anytime soon! But it sounds like it’s worth a gander and may even elicit a few laughs.

Might Harvey’s second book, the follow up to Think Like a ManStraight No Chaser: How to Find, Keep, and Understand A Man — also get a feature film adaptation?

While we await the film, hear Steve Harvey discuss the book and his 90-day rule:

  1. Over two million copies in over 26 languages! That’s wassup! I don’t know but this is the kinda material that should make it to the theaters. I mean, if many people are reading it, then they must love it… why not a movie so the message can reach a wider audience? Makes sense to me.

      • Whatever the case you are not going to agree with me. That aside, the fact people want the book in over 26 different languages says a whole f**cking lot about black content. In film black content in general hasn’t been yet recived worldwide. If this book is then the movies can be too. That’s why this is proof that black content can travel.

    • I don’t know what languages these are and how many copies each he’s selling per language, but, you may just have a point!

  2. I thought in the book he was just giving advice? How is that gonna be a movie? Even if he’s gonna be a shrink trynna advise people about how to navigate their relationships, who want to listen to him talk about ‘act like a lady, think like a man’? What’s that suppose to mean? I mean… daimmmn!
