US President Barack Obama is ramping up his re-election campaign with a documentary on his first term.

The campaign has released a trailer for the film, directed by Oscar-winner Davis Guggenheim and narrated by Tom Hanks, over a dramatic soundtrack.

The clip includes interviews with key administration figures praising Mr. Obama’s work on the economy and the decision to eliminate Osama Bin Laden.

Republicans say the documentary is not a full reflection of Mr. Obama’s record.

The entire 17-minute version of the film, titled The Road We’ve Traveled, will be released on 15 March at the campaign’s field offices across the country.

Hanks intones: “How do we understand this president and his time in office? Do we look at the day’s headlines, or do we remember what we, as a country, have been through?”

Former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, senior adviser David Axelrod, Vice-President Joe Biden and Obama economic adviser Austan Goolsbee are among those who give testimonials in the documentary.

Republican National Committee spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski said in a statement that Americans did not need a movie trailer to:

[sws_blockquote align=”” alignment=”alignleft” cite=”” quotestyles=”style03″]Know what the president accomplished over the past three years.

President Obama led our country to higher unemployment, record debt, and higher gas prices. The question is what does another Obama term mean for America? [/sws_blockquote]

The trailer seeks to portray Mr. Obama as a steely president who faced down incredibly tough challenges during his first term.

It also highlights the president’s healthcare reform law and bailout for the car industry.

Guggenheim, who won an Oscar for the climate change documentary An Inconvenient Truth, also worked on a half-hour campaign documentary for Mr. Obama in 2008.

  1. I love how people talk about how Obama and the Republicans are different, they are birds of the same feather. Despite the talk of health care reform, millions of Americans live without health insurance. Corporations have continued their robbing and pillaging, the same disaster foreign policy of wars continue, has America changed? No. Obama is only different on a superficial level from his predecessors.
