I LOVE my Twitter Bugs & to answer ur questions…if they did a Girlfriends Movie…I would do it…I always say that.

I’m sure this quote makes many Girlfriends fans smile. As a fan myself, I wonder why other successful sitcoms do not follow in the footsteps of Sex and the City and produce a feature film.

You have a devoted fan base and are almost guaranteed to make a profit. Sex and the City pulled in over $415 million worldwide at the box office, and Sex and the City 2, despite horrible reviews, managed another $288 million around the world.

Anyone who watched Girlfriends knows that things weren’t the same without Jill Marie Jones who played the real estate agent Toni Childs. The questions — Where is Toni?? And, is she coming back? — plagued every viewer who felt the departure of the feisty, witty character left an empty spot on the show that could not be filled.

Jones told Essence.com why she left the show:

[quote_box_center]I left because I wanted to do movies. My contract was up after my sixth season and people forget that just like the network can choose whether or not to renew your contract, I can also choose and evaluate whether or not I want to come back… I was on the show for six years and I think that’s a good run… I didn’t leave Girlfriends because I was upset or wanted more money… I wanted to dream bigger or experience something new… It really was just that simple. Since she left Girlfriends in 2006, Jones has appeared in a several movies (Drool, The Longshots, Redrum, Major Movie Star, The Perfect Holiday).

She also stars in the TBS micro-series Gillian in Georgia, which is produced by Jenna Milly and Angela Barnes Gomes and stars Jones as a hip New Yorker who comes to Georgia to live with her sister’s family. Check out one of these micro-episodes HERE.

Much success to Jill Marie Jones. She is a great actress, and if a Girlfriends movie ever does materialize, I am sure there will be a HUGE following!

  1. Yeah! Jones was my favorite. I hope she gets some really good gig out there. I know it’s tough out there for the black women in Hollywood but Tyler Perry is sure doing something about it. I will like to see her in one of his many movies coming up.

  2. Watching this episode in German made me realize that Girlfriends don’t have any big black gals! All these gals are skinny… we gotta promote range and diversity next time around. But for real, someone needs to put the English ones online though.

  3. I can’t believe you can’t buy the DVD man. What’s wrong witcha? How do u expect another batch of beautiful black babes to make money in acting if all you won is watch it for free? Darrrn, wake up!

  4. Funny but interesting enough, German sounds like some African language… If I saw this somewhere I would have thought it was a South African show.
