Spike Lee appeared at Reynolds Performance Hall on February 7, where he spent a significant amount of his lecture speaking about the importance of education and following dreams.
He said several times that:
It is important for young people to choose a major they love instead of doing what their parents want them to do. The harsh economic realities should not force people to want to work at a job they hate or study a major they don’t enjoy just because it will earn them the most money. It is important to expose yourself to as many things as possible because everyone has a gift. When you can make a living doing what you love, it’s not a job.
Finally he added:

First of all, that pic is funny. that little girl looks like she mad her parents are kissing. But yeah I think parents can kill dreams. My mom wanted me to major in medicine or something science related but my real passion is music. But its also true that some parents can finance dreams. Those kids with “daddy’s money” got an advantage financially but they usually don’t know what they wanna do. They got all the options in the world but can’t decide on one. smh

Speaking from experience. Ya! Parents can kill dreams. I think it’s more like people close to you who are usually the most influential people in ya life. They are the ones who can make or break you. So parent are the closest to shaping are dreams from childhood. So can we really blame them when they kill some and help some? I think it’s a crap shoot. You born with certain parents then you gotta take your chances.
