Do Afro-Latinos view themselves as “black” or are they more in touch with Spain and England than they are with African countries? If you’re interested in the answer to this question, you may want to check out Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr.’s Black in Latin America series.
Premiering nationally this Tuesday, April 19 on PBS, the series explores race and identity in Latin America and will run every Tuesday @ 8PM (ET) through May 10.
Gates’s previous programs include Wonders of the African World (1999), an exploration of the relationship between Africa and the New World and America Beyond the Color Line (2004), a report on the lives of modern-day African Americans.
