Tyler Perry’s empire keeps growing. This time, he’s adding a new sitcom called For Better or Worse to the TBS lineup.

For Better or Worse is based on Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? and Why Did I Get Married Too? and will focus on the ups and downs of married life between Angela and Marcus, played by Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White (above) who are set to reprise their roles from the previous films.

Production on For Better or Worse is slated to begin this summer at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. The young-adult targeted series will start out with 10 initial episodes and then order more if the show meets the desired ratings threshold.

Tyler Perry has helped TBS become a hotspot for many African American viewers.

The 2007 premiere of House of Payne on TBS drew 5.9 million viewers, at the time basic cable’s biggest sitcom audience ever and remained basic cable’s No. 1 sitcom until the 2008 premiere of Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns, which was also based on a Perry movie and a play.

As his 222-episode House of Payne ends its run on TBS, Perry said:
[sws_blockquote_endquote align=”” cite=”” quotestyle=”style03″]Even though it will be sad to say goodbye to House of Payne, I’m really looking forward to exploring new territory with For Better Or Worse. Working on House of Payne taught me a lot about what it takes to make a successful television series, and I’m looking forward to applying that experience to For Better Or Worse.[/sws_blockquote_endquote]

      • It’s a nice comedy show. I love the characters, the direction, the jokes, everything. I suspect you don’t agree… but that’s your trouble. There’re lots of Tyler Perry haters.
