Supermarket owners want to expose you to new products. For one, milk is put at the back of most stores so that you have to walk through hundreds of products to reach something you actually came to get.
More twists and turns through aisles, rather than straight aisles, makes people meander and become exposed to more products. However, storeowners attempt to achieve a delicate balance. If the aisles are too straight, customers won’t travel down every aisle, but if pathways are too confusing and maze-like, customers will feel frustrated and not likely return.
