After almost 25 years of being in development, Red Tails will finally reach theaters on January 20, 2012. It will be the feature film debut of director Anthony Hemingway, who has directed numerous television shows: CSI: NY, Treme, The Closer, Community, True Blood, ER, The Wire, and Criminal Minds, to name a few. Written by John Ridley and Aaron McGruder, it is inspired by true events and honors the memory and history of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African-American combat pilots during World War II.
