Steve McQueen’s latest film Shame tackles the subject of sex addiction, as Brandon’s (Michael Fassbender) private sex-addicted life is disrupted when his sister Sissy (Carey Mulligan) shows up unannounced to crash at his apartment indefinitely. Nicole Beharie (American Violet, The Last Fall) also makes an appearance as Marianne, Brandon’s co-worker and sexual pursuit.

According to McQueen, the title of the film arose from the word that kept coming up during interviews with sex addicts – who often spoke of a sense of self-loathing or self-hate from their actions.

Set in New York City, the NC-17 rated film has received many accolades including Best Actor for Fassbender at the Venice Film Festival and the British Independent Film Awards and Best Director for McQueen at the Seville European Film Festival.
