Filmclique is sad to hear that Whitney Houston passed away today at the young age of 48. We take this time to express our sincerest condolences to her family and all her loved ones, including you – her fans.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Whitney was the most awarded female act of all-time, with 2 Emmy Awards, 6 Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, and 22 American Music Awards, among a total of 415 career awards as of 2010. In the 80s, she had seven straight #1 music hits and throughout her career sold over 170 million albums and singles worldwide.
Her film career included memorable performances in Waiting to Exhale (1995), The Bodyguard (1992), The Preacher’s Wife (1996), and the TV movie Cinderella (1997).
Her last film appearance will be as Emma in the upcoming feature film Sparkle, to be released in August 2012.
Directed by Salim Akil, written by Mara Brock Akil, and starring Jordan Sparks, the drama/musical Sparkle tells the story of three sisters who form a successful singing group and must deal with the fallout of fame and drugs. The movie is a remake of the 1976 Sam O’Steen-directed film of the same title.
Just this week, Whitney was photographed at Tru Hollywood nightclub, where she sang a brief tribute to R&B singer Kelly Price.
