In this week’s Ultimate Comics Fallout #4, Marvel Comics introduced a new star of the Spider-Man Series: Miles Morales a 13-year-old half-black, half-Latino teen from Brooklyn.

The idea for the new character emerged when Donald Glover (Community) spurred a Twitter campaign to be cast in the new Spider-Man movie.

Read Glover’s tweets below:

Writer Brian Michael Bendis (Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers) said after seeing Glover in a Spider-Man costume on a episode of Community:

We just thought, Wouldn’t it be cool if Spider-Man was biracial?… Somebody different than the comic book norm — who represented New York more.

But Donald Glover doesn’t think the part will automatically be handed to him when the comic is adapted into a movie.

Who do you think should play the new bi-racial Spider-Man?

  1. I don’t think we will ever see a live action film based on the biracial Spiderman, as he exists in an alternate Marvel universe that doesn’t sell well. Making a movie based on it would confuse the market place. An animated film is possible but not probable.

  2. @LaDerrius. Why do you think it will confuse the market place?
@Classick. Lol… I guess even guys have a short shelve life in this current market ha?

  3. Peter Parker is Spiderman. For the most part all other Spidermen have had it rough. A live-action movie with the 4th string Spidey, there are also female and a future version of the character, will more than likely cause the casual fan to scratch his/her head, or become angry. The news of the Afro-Latino Spidey wasn’t met by enthusiasm by people who actually buy comics. It will be interesting to see if consumers support the character.

  4. Very interesting. Makes sense though. Do you think if they pumped a little more money into advertising it say, something good may come of it, even if they chose to do ‘Spiderwoman’ instead? Plus, if Bad Teacher can make $178M worldwide – I don’t know your impressions about this – do you still think a biracial Spiderman or ‘Spiderwoman’ can make money?

  5. That Spiderwoman is not the character I am talking about. She is not from The Spiderman family, even though her name makes it seem that way. I am talking about Spidergirl, a character who is like the new Spidey, exists in an alternate universe from the main Marvel Universe.

  6. I think a better question of who should play Luke Cage and Misty Knight in the The Heroes For Hire.series that has been rumored to be on the horizon?

  7. That fake trailer Isaiah Mustafa did to try to secure the Luke Cage role is good, but I think you might be right.

  8. Michael Jai White will probably get the job. Mustafa has a shot, along with Richard T. Jones and Terry Crews. Any muscle bound black actor who can exude toughness has a shot.

  9. I don’t know about Richard T. Jones (I’ve barely seen him ripped) and Terry Crews (can he be taken seriously?)… but for real, Michael Jai White and Henry Simmons both seem to have a real shot at this, in my candid opinion.

  10. Yeah, I highly doubt Marvel will do a movie based on Ultimate Spidey especially since they are already rebooting Spiderman next year. I’m glad this story is getting so much press, as a comic fan for decades its good to see.
