People are still talking about why such a strong singer like American Idol favorite Pia Toscano was eliminated so early in the competition.

Idol exec producer Ken Warwick suggests that an overwhelmingly female audience would not vote for female talent, though he is uncertain whether jealous female envy or cute-guy-adoration is the culprit. Warwick said:
[sws_blockquote_endquote align=”” cite=”” quotestyle=”style03″]The texting, the tweeting, the social glue we strive for – we were aware that voting would be skewed. Young girls and [mothers] are a driving force [in the voting]. So how can we keep it fair? We’re not going to start fiddling with the voting now –
but there are many ideas on the table.[/sws_blockquote_endquote]

Some early suggestions for amendments to the voting process include limiting the number of text votes allowed and incorporating judges’ opinions. However, these voting changes would occur during the next cycle and not during the show’s current season.

Should she have stayed longer in the competition? Or should America’s vote stand, regardless of whether the gender breakdown is 50/50 or 80/20?

  1. This is very strange. Women are biased towards women? I don’t think it’s a female envy… it’s probably a cute guy adoration.

  2. They should keep it the same. I think it’s just people wanting to make certain people stay on American idol so they are complacent about voting for the really good person.
